COMMUNITY COMPATIBILITY
Counties should decide whether developments of this scale are compatible with existing neighborhoods, agricultural areas, natural resources, and long-term land-use priorities.
Hyperscale facilities may occupy hundreds of acres and include industrial-scale structures, equipment, fencing, and security features that fundamentally alter the character of surrounding areas.
Agricultural communities, rural neighborhoods, and areas with environmental sensitivity may find that hyperscale development conflicts with existing uses and long-term planning goals.
The comparatively limited number of permanent employment opportunities these facilities typically create may not offset the scale of their physical, environmental, and infrastructure impacts on the community.
