Communities should evaluate whether expanded wastewater infrastructure or treatment capacity will be required to support large-scale data center operations.

Cooling systems, facility operations, and associated employee facilities may generate wastewater that must be processed through municipal or private treatment systems.

If existing wastewater treatment capacity is limited, the cost of expanding capacity may fall on the community rather than the developer, depending on the terms of development agreements.
